FUNCTION: motor to the superior oblique extraocular muscle The trochlear nerve passes through the SUPERIOR ORBITAL FISSURE where it supplies the superior oblique muscle of the eye. Injury to this nerve inhibits the eyeball from turning out and down (inferolaterally). This is seen clinically as DIPLOPIA (double vision). CN IV is the only cranial nerve to emerge dorsally from the brainstem. |
